The Blue Sulphur Springs Pavilion
The Blue Sulphur Springs Pavilion dates back to pre-civil war. Constructed in 1834 as the Blue Sulphur Springs Resort included the Pavilion, a three story, two hundred room hotel and bath house. In the 1840's it was visited by several presidents. In 1859 it became the Allegheny College for Baptist Ministers. In 1861 the Resort closed. It was used as a Civil War camp and hospital. In 1864 the Union Army burned the Resort to prevent the Confederate Army from utilizing the buildings. Only the Pavilion survived the fire.
